Biodiversity evaluation by using eDNA
Biodiversity evaluation by using eDNA
Introduction
Environmental DNA (eDNA) is DNA collected from vary environmental samples such as water, soil, and air. It is a mixture of DNA from different species such as microorganisms, animals, plants, etc. eDNA included DNA released into the environment by living organisms through skin, hair, scales, urine, feces, mucus, etc., and DNA released into the environment after death. So by using extracted eDNA, the specific gene fragments, usually located in mitochondrial genomes, were amplified by universal primers and the sequenced. The species were then identified by blast all the sequence against database. Finally, the biodiversity was obtained by integrated results.
